The water resistance is a key factor when choosing a smartwatch, especially during seasons like summer, when contact with water is more frequent, and your watch accompanies you everywhere.

While smartwatches are generally designed to withstand contact with fresh water, we don’t recommend using them in salt water, due to its corrosive properties.

The IP rating is a standard that refers to the international standard IEC 60529. This standard is used to classify and specify the level of resistance offered by an electronic device or equipment against the ingress of solids and liquids.

IP ratings are represented by the letters "IP" followed by two digits.

The first digit indicates protection against solid objects (rated from 0 to 6):

So, if your smartwatch has IP68 protection it means that it is fully dust resistant (primer dígito: 6) (first digit: 6) and can withstand up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes in fresh water (second digit: 8).
